Legacy forged at Vincennes, IN — Every detail tells a story of service
The old Borough of Vincennes passed an ordinance to provide six fire hooks and 6 ladders thirty feet long. Two hand fire engines were purchased from Philadelphia and 2 volunteer fire companies were organized to use it. In view of the imperfect protection in case of fires provided by the hand engines and volunteer fire companies, the city council on the 17th January, 1870 passed an ordinance for employment of a paid fire department. The Vincennes Fire Department is now organized in 4 Districts.

Company staffing includes Engine 1, Tower 1, Battalion 1, Boat 1, Engine 2, Ladder 3, Boat 3, Rescue 4, Reserve Engine 4 and a Hazmat Trailer. The Vincennes Fire Department has 38 members with 12 per 24 hour shift.
Vincennes responds to approximately 2,900 incidents each year.
