Legacy forged at Chesapeake, VA — Every detail tells a story of service
NALF Fentress was originally established during World War II, with the main runway built in the 1950s. Station 29's fire protection mission dates back to that era, meaning it has been in operation for approximately 70 to 80 years, evolving alongside the installation. The site has been a key part of WWII-era auxiliary airfield operations, the training of generations of Navy pilots, and the evolution of carrier landing practice since the 1950s.

Station 29 operates two Oshkosh T1500 Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) units and one Ford F-150 Command Truck. The station operates with a mixed team of Navy ABHs and civilian firefighters/captains, which is unique compared to most firehouses.
Station 29 supports Aircraft Rescue Firefighting (ARFF), structural firefighting, emergency medical response, and Navy aviation operations safety during Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP). Specialized skills include airfield operations, fuel/explosive hazard response, and crash rescue procedures. Crews routinely work in close support of fighter jets practicing the most demanding maneuver in naval aviation.
Every month we elevate a firehouse whose story deserves the spotlight. Members receive museum-grade coins and patches backed by the crews who live the job — authentic collectibles with real brotherhood behind them.
